American Supernatural — 2018In March 2018, filmmaker and paranormal researcher Don Phillips and his team--Ian Gunner, radio host of The Asylum, and Patty Kool of Demons in Seattle—traveled more than 5,000 miles from the United Kingdom to meet with Santa Cruz Ghost Hunters.
The mission was to film and document a unique paranormal investigation at one of Santa Cruz County's most famous haunted locations: the Brookdale Lodge.
Brookdale Lodge owner Pravin Patel graciously opened the lodge's doors, allowing the American and United Kingdom teams to join forces for an entire week of eyewitness interviews, historical research, and paranormal investigation.
As the week unfolded, the Santa Cruz team quickly discovered that Phillips approached paranormal investigation in a way they had rarely encountered. More than simply describing himself as a medium, Phillips demonstrated what appeared to be a remarkable ability to sense and communicate with those he believed had passed on.
Using a digital recorder, Phillips would ask questions aloud and, at times, receive immediate audible responses.
Then came Becky.
A female voice with a distinctly proper British accent began making itself known through the recordings. Phillips described Becky as a spirit who accompanied him as a guide or intermediary between the living and the dead. For the American team, the initial response was understandably skeptical. But as the voice continued to appear in response to Phillips' questions, the experience became increasingly difficult for those present to dismiss.
For Porter, it was an experience unlike anything she had encountered before.
As the investigation continued, the relationship between the American and United Kingdom teams grew stronger. What began as a week investigating the Brookdale Lodge became a journey through the history of the lodge and the surrounding San Lorenzo Valley. Phillips appeared to connect with voices associated with people who had suffered tragic or violent deaths, at times becoming visibly emotional as he attempted to understand their stories.
But the week would lead the teams somewhere neither group had initially expected.
The Brookdale investigation became more than an exploration of one historic mountain resort. As the American and United Kingdom teams worked together, their research eventually carried them beyond the lodge and toward another location--one that Porter had spent years trying to leave behind.
On the eve of Easter Sunday 2018, Porter took the United Kingdom team to a nearby cemetery that had remained with her for nearly a decade.
What happened there would become one of the most disturbing investigations in the history of Santa Cruz Ghost Hunters.
But that is another story.

Documentary Status

Currently the Brookdale Lodge footage for American Supernatural is being edited for production in the U.K, by Raven Media Production / Don Philips. We anticipate the finished documentary by fall this year.
