The Mystery Spot

The Mystery Spot, located in Santa Cruz County, is purported to be a gravitational anomaly. Legend has it that the land located at 465 Mystery Spot Road in Santa Cruz was originally purchased and surveyed in 1939 and opened to tourists in the 1940’s. It is said that during the surveying of this land, an unknown altered perception began affecting surveyors and their equipment in an unusual way. Upon the opening of Mystery Spot, a story of an underground anomaly lying beneath the earth created this altered perception. However, since the 1940s, more stories have surfaced including the belief that an alien spacecraft lies beneath the earth’s crust generating this unforeseen gravitational pull, or an alternative dimensional plain through which entities travel back and forth.

Still others believe that the Mystery Spot is the work of a master carpenter, an illusionist if you will, who designed the attraction to alter our reality and perceptions with an incredible demonstration of preciseness in the creation of an unusual house of cards.

With balls that can roll uphill or move counter-clockwise from the ceiling to individuals becoming taller and smaller, perceptions become altered at the Mystery Spot. Whatever it may be, The Mystery Spot is an enjoyable piece of Santa Cruz history that should be explored at least once in a person’s lifetime.

Santa Cruz Ghost Hunters discovered that during the great depression in the early 40s, many areas throughout the nation and abroad seemed to have been popping up with these “mysterious spots”, each displaying similar signs or claims of this gravitational anomaly. For a small fee, visitors from all over were welcomed to explore this anomaly and share their experiences. Sadly, today only a handful of these areas still exist in the U.S. and remain open to the general public. Santa Cruz is indeed fortunate to have one of these remarkable pieces of history still available.

Do Aliens exist beneath the earth’s surface of the Mystery Spot -  Is it a haunted vortex or the works of an illusionist? Perhaps, however, the Santa Cruz Ghost Hunters feel The Mystery Spot is best left as a mystery for all to enjoy…
